| Maaren Edvard began her career acting and singing in stock and repertory theatre in the Midwest, eventually arriving in Los Angeles, where she has since acted in numerous television, stage and musical theatre productions. Her television credits include a year long stint on The Young and the Restless and a variety of guest appearances. Some of her favorite leading roles have been Hedda in Hedda Gabler, Raymonde Chandebise in A Flea in Her Ear, Celia Copplestone in The Cocktail Party and Dona Ana in Don Juan in Hell (with George Chakiris and Jack Colvin). An award-winning actress and long-time member of Theatre East and Nova Diem theatre companies, she has performed in many of their original and classical plays. Among them were the Player Queen in Hamlet (starring John Hugo), Mrs. Allonby in Oscar Wilde’s A Woman of No Importance, and an award-winning portrayal of the legendary Nora Bayes in the original musical My Lady Vaudeville. A founding member of the Michael Chekhov Studio, Ms. Edvard first came to know of Chekhov and his teachings through the work of his protégé Jack Colvin, whom she met during her time at Theatre East. Since those early beginnings, she has become a devoted disciple of the Michael Chekhov acting technique and worked with Mr. Colvin in many venues, first as student, now as friend and colleague, not only studying the technique under his tutelage but also performing under his direction numerous times and acting with him on stage. Currently on the Board of Directors of the Michael Chekhov Studio, Ms. Edvard, together with John Hugo, conducts week-end intensives and ongoing, exercise and advanced scene study classes. |
